What is your interest in rope?
-My interest in rope is actually a new awareness for me that has developed over the course of a few years.  I’ve always been fascinated in how women were able to be bound for hours in rope that appeared to be painful, yet they always seemed so peaceful and comfortable.  I began to experiment with rope lightly during a photo shoot in 2011, but my fetish training this year has opened my mind to experiment with different versions of shibari play including suspension.
What has been your experience with rope?
-My first time being placed in shibari was for a photo shoot with Gary Mitchell a few years ago. I was nervous, but I trusted him enough to place me in bondage and photograph it for the first time. It was a liberating experience.  Since then, I’ve had little experience with rope up until this year when I had to wear a shibari design for a full day during my fetish assignment.  It was interesting to see how people responded to it.
How was your experience with Mr. Abrams?
-I had an amazing time working with Mr. ABRAMS. He is a talented photographer and has a way of making you feel comfortable in your skin.  He’s funny, extremely knowledgeable about consciousness and BDSM play and his personality is off the chain.  I learned how to make home made microwavable popcorn in between looks and we had a few good laughs.  I would shoot with him again for sure!
Do you consider yourself a Dominant, submissive or a Switch?
-I consider myself a dominant.  In bed, however, I like to switch it up and play coy or submissive.  But in my every day life I can’t see myself playing as a submissive.  I’m too much of an alpha female to allow it.
Would you consider yourself a kinky person?
-I’m multifaceted, so I will say that there is an aspect of my personality that is kinky.  I wouldn’t describe my entire essence as kinky, but I do enjoy kink play and exploring within that space.

o Calypso Storm

o thecalypsostorm@gmail.com

o www.calypsostorm.com (a work in progress)

o Facebook: www.facebook.com/thecalypsostorm

o Tumblr: CalypsoStorm

Age: 35

City: Chicago, IL

o Height: 5’10”

o Bra: 40J (Yes, this size exists.  No, they don’t make “cute” bras in my size.)

o Body Type: “real thick and juicy”

Type of Model(Adult, Pin-up, Fashion, etc) : I am still new to this and therefore a work in progress.  For the time being, I’m hoping for a cross between fetish/kink, pin-up and cosplay/geek.

Do you model full-time/part-time?  For now, modeling is a hobby.  We’ll see if anything more comes of it.

Zodiac: Capricorn (though the only Capricorn traits I really possess are stubbornness/determination and loyal to a fault)

Photographer: the incomparable Solomon Abrams (Urban American Gallery, Thick Chick Academy and Knotty Girls)

Tattoos/Piercings? If so how many and where?

o Piercings: 4 (one in each ear; one barbell in each nipple)

o Tattoos: 6

Lower Back: small Manderin symbol for “music” (hey! I was 17 and it was before “tramp stamps” were a thing)

Between Shoulder Blades: Manderin symbol for “strength”

Left Wrist: Arabic symbol for “peace” (salaam)

Right Wrist: Spanish word for “solidarity”

Top of Left Foot: Latin phrase that means “know thyself” (similar to the sign in the Oracle’s home in the original Matrix movie, only mine is grammatically correct 😉 )

Inside of Right Calf: medium tribal style African Leopard – it’s my spirit animal.
During a safari in the Masaai Mara in Kenya in 2014, on our quest to see all of “the Big 5”, our guide told us that the African Leopard is elusive and will “only be seen if she wants to”.  When we saw her lounging 50 feet up in the tree he said, “she is not the biggest predator in the Great Rift Valley, but she is the most fearsome.  She will never start a fight but she will always finish one”.

Dream Project/Job? To be honest, I never imagined I would be doing this at all.  It has been fun just getting to be a part of it.  Photo shoots are like playing “dress up” as adults.  I get to see myself in ways that I never thought possible.

Lesson(s) learned the hard way?  The hardest lesson I have learned (or rather continue to learn) is that I am deserving.  Buddha once said, “you yourself, as much as anybody in the universe, are deserving of your love and affection”.  I have always been focused on giving, fighting for and protecting others. I am learning that I am most effective and capable of giving when I take care of myself.  It is, however, much easier said than done.

How long have you been doing this?  My first shoot was on 01/02/2016.  So I am as new as they come.

How’d you get started in modeling?  I have had a long-term playmate whom I have shared the kink lifestyle via swinging (and light BDSM) for about 4 years.  Once he saw how much I enjoyed having my tits tied up (cupcake style) at a lifestyle party, he decided to hook me up with Solomon Abrams, who is known for his Shibari rope work and photography.  While I fought against the idea that I could ever be a model, I was assured that Mr. Abrams enjoys shooting “curvy and thick women”.  I thought I would try it once, just to say I had done it, and be done.  It turns out, it’s a lot of fun and I might be addicted.  Not to mention the wonders it does for your self-concept to see yourself through the lens of a skilled photographer.

Any upcoming releases, projects or events?  I am working to develop a website that will have exclusive content and perhaps merchandise.  It will also feature a blog that focuses on healthy kink and fetishes.  I am working on my social media game, even though I learned that my pics are “too sexy” for Instagram (only after getting my account deleted).

What do you think your industry/art form is missing? I’m too new to this art to have much of an opinion.  I am most fascinated and drawn into photography of Shibari rope work.  It is beautiful in a primal way.  It shows both a strength and vulnerability in each model.  I wish that our society and culture as a whole were less prudish about the human body and sexuality.  Even if you’re not “into” kink and fetishes, that doesn’t mean you aren’t able to acknowledge the depth and intensity of the art form.  Even if you know nothing about rope work, it is hard to look at these photos and not see the beauty in them.
Do you think faith has a place in modeling?  As a model, I believe my role is to be a canvas for the photographer.  That means if the photographer would like to feature elements of faith, I would be open to doing so.  As a model creating my own brand, it is clear that each model has their own niche and their faith can be part of that.  I am not interested in telling anyone what they can and can not do.  The beauty of art is that there are no limitations as to what can be interesting or powerful.  Personally, as an aspiring Buddhist, my faith does not take a center role in my work.  It has, however, helped me learn to let go and enjoy myself in the process.  I use meditation to be present in the moment and to become what is being asked of me.

Items you think every model should have in her bag?  Deodorant!  Working hard is part of what we sign up for (and believe me, it IS a workout), but there is NO excuse to let your funk get between you and your photographer – especially when they’re getting up close and personal doing Shibari rope work or repositioning “the girls” because your hands are (literally) tied.  There are other obvious answers, such as: lingerie; wigs; shoes; and makeup.  When it comes down to brass tacks, though, deodorant and the right, playful, attitude can go a long way.

What was the hardest challenge being a plus size model?  While I don’t struggle to view other plus sized women as beautiful, I definitely struggle to view myself as beautiful.  Like most things, we are our own worst enemies.  It took me until my late 20’s to accept the fact other people find me attractive.  I am well into my 30’s and just now learning that I might actually be somewhat attractive… I still don’t feel comfortable identifying as a “model” though.  hehe

A beautiful foot fetish model, Sarah jumped head first into the theme. Shot during the Christmas season, the blue rope matched her hair perfectly. While the green rope added a festive and regal feel to the over all gift wrapping shibari theme.

Lanita Joseph

I have to say, Lanita is a consummate professional. She came to the shoot dealing with a few personal issues. She smiled and said,” No I’m fine, Let’s do it.” It was like she flipped a switch and focused strictly on the shoot. She smiled and danced some as the jazz music switched between swing and some soulful sounds,  the dance choreographer came out and she began to loosen up.

Altamese Hogan

I met Altamese while showcasing my art work at a Breast Cancer Awareness event. Her energy was awesome. We spoke about her coming by the GALLERY and doing a “Knotty Girls” . Like anything in the industry things time to coordinate, but when she showed up; SHE SHOWED OUT.  It was a no-brainer to create a shot for a framed print. She has been hanging in the gallery every since.

Sara Lai

Name: Sara Lai
Hometown: Chicago
Measurements: 5’2″, 32D, 24, shoe 7
Social Media(Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, etc): IG @the_drager

Tell us about you? I’m full of curiosity and wonder I enjoy exploring different concepts when it comes to art and photography. I aspire to be as an embalmer and cremator.
How do you describe your kink? I like to dabble in everything. Everything in moderation. Latex, bdsm, role play and reversal etc.
What is your interest in rope? The term shibari has not been in my dictionary for very long but from what I know of it.
What has been your experience with rope? I find it an exquisite form of artistic display.

How was your experience working with Mr. Abrams? Mr. Abrams is the first shibarist I have come in contact with so this may be biased and I may be holding him on a pedastool but he’s exceedingly talented not only as a shibarist but a photographer as well as photo editor.
Do you consider yourself a Dominant, Submissive, or Switch?  I am what I need to be, but for the right person I am a submissive, it is hard for me to naturally relax and give just anyone control of myself and my body. I find it easier to take on a dominant kind of role. However when I am physically with someone and I have no doubts about bar person I can let my guard down and trust them to take control.
How did you hear you about Knotty Girls? I encountered Mr. Abrams’ Instagram page and immediately the thought kind of stuck in my head. Although I don’t always collaborate I will for something that A. Piques my interest and B. Will definitely be a great addition to my portfolio.
You told me this was your first bondage shoot, how was it?
Would you consider yourself a kinky person? It was an interesting shoot and in no way did I feel violated Mr. Abrams kept it professional which helps all the more seeing as how restricting bondage can be.
How do you prepare for a show/shoot? In all honesty if it’s an early shoot I spend all night waking up every hour against my will finally manage to get up, put some cold tea bags over my eyelids apply some shadow, slick on some eyeliner and rub in some color (usually peachy or irridescent) on my cheeks (red/pink/wine) on my lips. I take my dog out, let her do her business and leave for my shoot.
Let’s change things up some…
Favorite Song to dance to? Anything by g eazy but I also like that song “I like tuh” DJ Carnage makes a remix featuring Lil Wayne and G Eazy 😉
However I also love country music and can find myself humming and swaying to that as well.
What’s you Guilty Pleasure? I enjoy sweets although I should really curb my intake. Not being of weight reasons, I could care less of how much I weigh.. I enjoy red meat, I enjoy sugar, especially sea salted brownies from trader joes and those little cake balls called wedding cakes as well as lemon tarts and coffee or mango flavored anything.
Which do you prefer;
Car, Truck or motorcycle?  Tacoma crew cab. Although I drive a civic (super gas efficient) and motorcycles are awesome but you have to worry about yourself and obeying the rules of the road as well as relying on the people around you to know the rules of the road.
Sneakers, Boots, Stilettos? I like sneakers I like boots, heels are pretty yet not everyday functional.
